America’s Favorite Charities
Ranked 35th Nationally

JDC was the highest-ranking Jewish organization for this special report from the Chronicle of Philanthropy, which identifies the 100 nonprofits that earn the most support from individual Americans, private foundations, and corporate philanthropies. These organizations each raise hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions, in gifts of cash and stock — more than $38 billion collectively in 2023, or roughly one out of every $15 donated to charity that year. JDC ranked 35th out of 100 in 2025. As of early 2026, there are approximately 1.8 to 1.9 million registered nonprofit organizations in the United States, according to data from Candid and Funraise.

Forbes Magazine: America’s Top 100 Charities
Ranked 62nd Nationally

JDC was one of only four Jewish organizations— and the only one listed in the “International Needs” category — to appear on Forbes’s Top-100 ranking. This list is based entirely on private contributions in each charity’s last reported fiscal year. Forbes also reports for each charity such metrics as overhead, fundraising costs, charitable commitment (how much goes to program support), and how much the top-earning employee at each organization is paid.
